John Tory
Leader of the
Ontario PC Party
I hope this letter finds everyone in Stormont, Dundas & Charlottenburgh well. I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on how things have been going since I became your Party Leader.

I have had the opportunity to make many personal appearances in ridings across the province and wanted first to convey to you the tremendous sense of privilege and responsibility I feel as the new Leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. I am keenly aware of the great expectations many people have for our Party going forward, particularly given the distinguished track record we have had in our many years of governing this great province.

As I have said many times, it is my strongly held view that we are going to have to earn our way back to government, this means ensuring that we are a credible conservative alternative to the present tax and spend Liberals.

In just the first year of office, the Liberal government has broken 38 promises it made to the people of Ontario during the 2003 election campaign. All of their promise breaking has caused hardship on the average Ontario family. Higher hydro rates, higher auto insurance and of course one of the biggest broken promises of all, the introduction of the healthcare tax. They also have received billions of new dollars for healthcare from the federal government but are forcing local hospitals to cut much needed medical services, many available beds and valuable nurses and support staff.

I am also very aware that all of you have been working hard as volunteers over the last few years both in the leaderships and general elections provincially and federally. I truly hope that over the coming holiday period we all recharge our batteries and spend time catching up with our friends, relatives and neighbours. In the new year, we should all be prepared with strong riding plans to organize events, hold fundraisers and continue the work of holding the Liberal government accountable for their actions.

I want to thank the Riding President, Glen Grant, for this opportunity to address you. I look forward to working with you and I hope to have the chance to meet as I travel throughout the province.

Yours sincerely

John Tory
Leader
Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario
