Report on General Meeting August 20, 2004
The association is honoured that three very special guests from the OPCYA joined us—Mike Wilson, OPCYA President from Toronto; Aaron Campbell, First Vice President from Ottawa; & James Murphy, Eastern Ontario Regional Chair from Ottawa! These three inspiring, young men shared valuable experience and innovative ideas with our enthusiastic members.
Todd Lalonde, former Youth President and Provincial Candidate; Glen Grant, SDC PCPO President; and Guy Lauzon, newly elected MP; added vibrance with their compelling speeches. Guy encouraged us to continue our valiant efforts while reminding us that hard work and dedication pay off as evidenced in the last election when "volunteers won the campaign". Glen shared with us his political experience as a young man and reiterated how the principles of the PC Party will interest people right across the spectrum as they look for good sense in government.
Todd demonstrated how his political involvement at an early age sparked enormous potential and encouraged all members to explore and develop their potential to the fullest. After refreshments, the youth members gathered to commence their first General Meeting. James guided us through the process of electing a new Vice President. I'm exhilarated to announce that Jon Noble, a long-time youth activist from Cornwall, was elected unanimously! Jon's experience and enthusiasm is an exciting addition to your Executive. Mike gave us some tips for fundraising, then presented us with several terrific ideas to attract new members. In addition, he informed us of the OPCYA 2004 Mid-Term Convention. (Registration forms are included for interested members.)
Before adjourning the meeting, we exhibited our latest fundraiser—a Back-to-School Thermos Lunch Bag complete with accessories. This kit, which sells for $10.00, was distributed among the members to sell. (If you or any of your friends would like to support your local PC Youth Association and buy the kit, contact Priscilla Franklin, msg@346-1493 or pjfranklin@canada.com) In conclusion, all participants had a terrific time—outstanding speakers, dedicated volunteers, inspiring young people, and a lovely picnic made this event an enormous success. With your continued support, many more will follow!
