Seaway News February 9, 2007 As I travel to all corners of the riding of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, I am often asked how the Progressive Conservatives will govern our province differently than the current Liberal Government. There are six very basic values that will guide us at Queen’s Park. A John Tory Progressive Conservative Government will honour our commitments, govern with integrity, make your priorities our priorities, build achievable plans, deliver meaningful results and work hard for a stronger Ontario. I have heard from concerned residents over such issues as the Clean Water Act, access to Long Term Care beds, the doctor shortage, government waste, the need for a strong economy, lack of support for the agriculture sector and many other issues. I have been spending my time over the last weeks and months listening to and learning from the people of this riding. I strongly value this input on issues, as it is key to making your priorities the priorities of a new provincial government. I often receive feedback from my columns in the Seaway News, and I am inviting the readers to contact me, as I would like to hear your thoughts on this question: “What is your vision for a better Ontario?” I can be reached by telephone at (613) 933-8973, via my website at www.ChrisSavard.ca or by e-mail at chris@chrissavard.ca The job of government should be to tackle the big issues – making sure that we have a foundation on which to build a caring and prosperous society. So, where Dalton McGuinty worries about re-designing the provincial logo and spending millions on partisan advertising, we will work tirelessly on the issues that matter to you. In 2003 the McGuinty Liberals made 231 promises to the people of Ontario, including, at least 50 of which Dalton McGuinty knew he couldn’t deliver. Our first policy commitment to people of Ontario is very basic; we will only make promises that we know we can keep. Our future in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry is limited only by our imagination and willingness to work hard. This new future starts with an optimistic view and by delivering on promises made. I look forward to hearing from you! AROUND THE RIDING… Each month, I have the pleasure of attending many events throughout SD&G and I am always amazed at the level of community involvement and devoted volunteerism that is evident in the success of these events. Congratulations to the organizers of the Bainsville Shinny Hockey Tournament. Not only was this a well-organized event that was fun for the whole family, the first-class outdoor facility is the envy of communities all across Canada. Kudos to Collette Struthers and all other organizers of the Manulife Walk for Memories. The Walk held at Cornwall Square raised just over $20,500 for the Alzheimer Society, while at the same time increasing awareness and understanding of this progressive, degenerative disease of the brain. Lastly, hats off to Adele Constantineau and her team of bra artists, who designed 65 artistic and unique bras to be auctioned off at Sears in Cornwall between February 1st to 11th. You still have time to visit the store and make your bid to support this Breast Cancer fundraising initiative. chris@chrissavard.ca
