Voters Send A Strong Message to Dalton McGuinty

John Tory
Leader of the
Ontario PC Party

March 31, 2006

Progressive Conservative Party Leader John Tory tonight welcomed two new women to his Party's Caucus and said three by-elections around the province have sent a powerful message to Dalton McGuinty.

"Tonight the voters passed judgment on Dalton McGuinty's record of broken promises," said Tory. "Despite the McGuinty Liberals throwing everything they had at these by-elections, voters sent Dalton McGuinty a message they will not vote for broken promises and weak leadership. I look forward to 2007 when all Ontario voters have a chance to do the same."

Tory thanked PC candidates Christine Elliott, Lisa MacLeod, Georgina Blanas and their volunteers for great campaigns in Whitby-Ajax, Nepean-Carleton and Toronto-Danforth respectively. "Queen's Park will be stronger with Christine Elliott and Lisa MacLeod in the Legislature," Tory said.

"But we still have a lot of work to do - Dalton McGuinty is still in office," said Tory. "The broken promises continue to mount. This government continues to tax more and deliver less. Ethical standards are lower. Gridlock and hospital wait times continue to worsen."

Christine Elliott said: "We have a lot of work to do in order to replace this government next year but the people of Whitby-Ajax have taken the lead and provided us with good momentum. They have chosen a fresh start and I will be a strong new voice that will stand up for Durham and make sure this region's needs are addressed."

Lisa MacLeod
MPP Elect
Nepean Carleton
Lisa MacLeod said: "The people of Nepean-Carleton have sent a strong message to Dalton McGuinty and I'm honoured to deliver it. Mr. McGuinty is from this area but he is not delivering results and not keeping his promises for this region. I look forward to standing up for the people of Nepean-Carleton."
