BOB CHANT Named Chief of Staff by John Tory
January 12, 2006 -
Chant brings an extensive background in business, the media, politics, and government to his new role. Since 1996 he has held increasingly senior public relations, marketing and corporate communications positions with Labatt Breweries of Canada. During the past five years he has held a senior executive role as Director, Corporate Affairs, overseeing the development and execution of Labatt’s corporate communications and marketing public relations activities.
His previous business experience includes a total of five years as national accounts manager with The Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star, and two years as an Account Supervisor with the Young & Rubicam advertising agency.
His political and government experience includes nearly five years service as Tour Manager in Prime Minister Brian Mulroney’s Office, one year as Director of Special Events for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, and many years of volunteer political activity. Since 1983, Chant has played a leadership role in 10 election campaigns at the federal and provincial levels.
John Tory said, “I’m delighted that someone of Bob’s calibre has accepted the invitation and the opportunity to lead our Queen’s Park staff into the next provincial election. His proven abilities, the breadth of his experience, plus his knowledge of politics and government will be of tremendous assistance as we prepare to hold the McGuinty
Liberals to account in 2007.
Bob Chant noted, “I look forward to joining John Tory, the Caucus and others as we drive towards the next election. I’ve enjoyed and appreciated the 15 great years I’ve spent with Labatt. But the opportunity to contribute directly to this effort at Queen’s Park, and to work with the man many Ontarians believe will make the best Premier, was too great to turn down. I plan to meet with as many of my new colleagues as possible in the coming weeks so that I can hit the ground running in February.”
